Under Different Stars

I've read a couple of really brutal reviews of this book. So I was hesitant to read it but I am really glad I did. Once I started it I was hard put to sit it down. I finished it in just a few hours.
- Yes, it has a few standard YA cliche's
- Yes, the MC can be immature at times (she is only 17)

But if you don't like YA SF stories then don't read YA SF books.

Under Different Stars is a serious good read. The world building is stellar (pun intended). I felt a connection to the MC, Kricket. I liked her. I think at 17 I could have been her friend. The love interest(s) are drool worthy and it has an interesting story.

So if you are a fan of YA SF/Fantasy stories then read this.

I must admit I liked this far more then I thought I would. The language is mildly childish at times and the characters are a little naive (though fleshed out nicely) but the writing is solid and has a good flow. The world building is well done and rich in details. I think the target audience is on the younger side of YA but this story can and will have no problem keeping their interest. I recommend Akarnae for anyone who likes YA fantasy. Only a hint of romance, little violence but a well written storyline. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Marked

** Adult - Dystopian - Urban Fantasy

Marked is my first book by Ms. Fine but most assuredly will not be my last.

I read this on my kindle in less then a day, getting caught up in the book and not wanting to put it down. I felt for the two main characters, Cacy and Eli, right away and really wanted a HEA for them. The secondary characters were fleshed out also, though one or two stand out much more then the others.

-The plot was well thought out and the story was steady with an even flow.
-The world was readily understandable with no heavy info dump.
-No over load of violence or sex, but a balance of both.

The only thing keeping Marked from being a 5 star book is that the ending was a little too predictable. I figured out the villain about half way through the book.

That being said: Marked is a thoroughly enjoyable start to the Servants of Fate series, and I am looking forward to reading the second book Claimed.

Undercity

Undercity - Catherine Asaro 4 stars

This book grapped me from the get-go and never let go. The writing is superb and I found it very easy to lose myself in the story. I could,ve easily read "Undercity" in less then a day but I was loathe to let the book end, so I dragged through the last few chapters. The characters are realistic, and are people I would like to know. The plot is well thought out and there is an easy flow that makes reading it ajoy. I would whole heartedly advise anyone who enjoys reading U/F and/or S/F as this book has a happy marriage of both.

This is my first book by Ms. Amaro but it will most certainly not be my last.
