It took me awhile to get into this book but once I did I couldn't put it down. Myla, the MC, has grown up in a world of prejudice and blatant lies about her people the quasi-demons.(demon-human hybrids)Who are virtual slaves and treated as such.

This is the first book by Ms. Myles I have read. I didn't find out till after I had read it that this book is part of her series, The Cursed Princes. While not having read previous books in the series did not really distract from enjoying this book I do believe that if I had read them I would have enjoyed this book even more. It would have given me a comfortable familiarity with some of the characters and may have added depth to the story line.

I was never quite able to click with this novella. The characters are somewhat wooden and flat, the story while decent was not one I could lose myself in. The MC

Flowers in the Attic - V.C. Andrews 5 stars
Intense and haunting.

Sex in popular books is now the norm but not so in 1979. Add in the taboo of sex (& romantic love)between brother and sister. And several types of abuse and you had a book that was obsessed over by most as much as it was reviled by others.

I first read this in 1979, I was 12 years old (same as Cathy the MC). All my friends thought my mom was so cool (and she was) because she let me read it. This was the book we girls whispered about whenever we could. Several of my friends moms actually called my mom to see if they should let their 12 year old daughters read it. Most of them did.

I have re-read this book many times over the years but none have had the impact as that first time did. It effected my 12 year old self and it quickly became my favorite book, and was until a year later when I 1st read Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice". Though it is still one of my favs.

"Flowers" is a book that leaves you thinking about it long after you've finished reading it. Even today with the popularity of erotica , violent thrillers and horror stories. it is still a book that leaves a reader feeling intense emotions. I have read it at least 10 times and each time it effects me, differently but just as deeply. Now as a mother and grandmother I feel angry and protective.

But I digress...

If you have not read this book I would suggest you go out immediately and get it. Make a cup of tea (or coffee), grap a blanket and a box of tissue because regardless of your age or sex unless you are a robot/android this book will leave you breathless and shaken.

*** E-Arc from Netgalley for a review ***

I was psyched to get this e-arc from Netgalley. I really, really love me some Netgalley.

This is my first book by Ms. Natusch, so I am not familiar with world the characters inhabit or with the history of any of them from her previous series, Caged but I didn't feel like I lost anything by it.

This is in essence an Angel story and for whatever reason they aren't my favorite sub-genre. But this has an unusual twist in adding the Greek pantheon and mythology to the mix as well. Good and evil, gods, angels, demons and assorted other supernatural beings. All fighting an ancient war hidden from us mere mortals.

The mc is a mix of innocence and hard edges spending half her life in hell... literally. Six month (spring and summer)in Hades and six months (fall and winter) in an extremely remote and isolated place here on Earth. Her english is stiff, formal and old fashioned but that fits as it is not her first (2nd, 3rd or even 5th) language. Her long life (she is several centuries old but physically, mentally and emotionally a 17 year old girl) has been brutal and lonely. I alternated between feeling sorry and wanting to slap her upside her head. The other characters are so-so, sometimes flat and hollow other times really annoying. But I really don't like the love interest. He is everything that is wrong in men without any redeeming qualities, so of course Khara falls for him. I would have given this book 4 stars but I really, really don't like

Dark Child (The Awakening): Omnibus Edition

Dark Child (The Awakening): Omnibus Edition - Adina West 3 Stars

*** E-Arc from Netgalley ***

This is pretty standard PNR/UF faire.

Attractive but unassuming human woman is thrust into a hidden supernatural world as she starts to exhibit powers she did not know she had. And studly shape-shifters and vampires fall out of the woodwork to prove their worth by protecting her from previously unknown enemies.

No big surprises and lacking any real originality, it is none the less well written. The story is cohesive and easy to follow. The characters are pretty well fleshed out and the plot moves study with enough action to keep things interesting.

I am already reading the next installment of the Dark Child series.

A Winter's Knight

A Winter's Knight - Elizabeth Cole 3 stars

This is a very short story that is fun to read, and not much else.
No where near historically accurate but that is fine because this story is what it is meant to be. A short, quick feel good read. The characters are a little flat and the story itself is rather monotone. But I was still able to get into the flow of the story right from the start.

I would recommend this story to someone looking for a short, quick book. The story is light and easy. It helped me pass some time and left me with a smile on my face. And that was fine with me.

Stone Song

Stone Song - D.L. McDermott 5 stars

*** E-Arc provided by NetGalley for review.

I was lucky enough to get all 3 e-arcs (#1 Cold Iron; #2 Silver Skin; #3 Stone Song) from NetGalley, each one is over 350 pages long but I read all three in a matter of 36 hours. So that should tell you something.

I fell in love with the characters. They seem like real people even though most of them are of myth and folklore. These are not the fae of childrens fairytales but are instead the fae of our ancestors. Our instinctive fear of the dark. Seductive and wild. Their cold, alien beauty promising cruel delights.

This is a PNR/UF hybrid with plenty of action. The world building is detailed but doesn't over whelm the story. I was lost in the book by the end of the first chapter. I actually read this book first, not realizing until well into it that it wasn't the first book of the series. But it didn't take anything away from my enjoyment of any of the books. I have to admit this is my favorite. And the way it ends it seems fairly obvious that there will be at least one more book in the series, which makes me very happy.

There is sex (but I wouldn't describe this as erotica). Quite a bit of violence with some towards women, so adults only and not for the faint of heart.

Darkly seductive, I would recommend this book to any adult who likes their fairytales dark and their heroes more naughty then nice.

I actually read the third book of this series "Stone

Prized

Prized - Caragh M. O'Brien 3 Stars

I am a huge fan of Ms. O'Brien and of this series. But while I enjoyed this book, it was just not up to the standard set by 1st book. It seemed to suffer from the infamous "middle book" syndrome. While quite a bit happens in this story at times it still feels a little like filler.

Don't get me wrong,, the story still flows smoothly and the writing is still really good. My main compliant is there are several times the mc, Gaia, acts totally out of character from how she was in the first book. On more then one occasion I wanted to smack her.

Prized is still well worth reading and I look forward to reading the last book of the trilogy, Promised.

Halo

Halo - Frankie Rose 5 stars

*Got ebook free off Amazon.

I often feel a little jaded with all of the YA books flooding the market. But every once in a while I luck out and come across a hidden gem. HALO is most diffidently a gem.

I was able to lose myself in the story right away. The characters are well developed and full of life. The world is detailed and colorful. I really liked this book, it was almost (this close > <) to being a 5 star book for me. But I am really, really stingy with them and just couldn't do it. <br/> Just kidding... it is a 5 star book.

This is my first Frankie Rose novel but it is most certainly not my last. I look forward to reading more of her novels.

I highly recommend this book.
Who am I kidding... it's FREE! Read this book.
